Education

Public schooling in the area is provided by the San Diego Unified School District. The public campuses for the Mission Beach area include Pacific Beach Elementary, Pacific Beach Middle School, Mission Bay High School and La Jolla High School. The San Diego area also has many college campuses, including San Diego State University, University of San Diego, San Diego City College and Point Loma Nazarene University.

Attractions/Points of Interest

The casual community of Mission Beach is located in the heart of coastal San Diego, bordered by Pacific Beach on the north and Ocean Beach on the south. The eastern edge of Mission Beach is defined by Mission Bay, a world-renowned vacation destination that includes SeaWorld, Vacation Isle and Fiesta Island. Mission Beach is connected to mainland San Diego by West Mission Bay Drive and Grand Avenue. Both streets connect to Mission Boulevard, which runs straight down the center of the Mission Beach community.

Those who aren’t from the San Diego area might only know Mission Beach as the home of Belmont Park, the beachfront amusement park. Belmont Park’s main attraction is the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, which was originally opened in July of 1925. The coaster and the amusement park remained very popular with locals through the 1940s, but both fell into disrepair after that. In 1976, the park and the coaster were closed. For the next 14 years, the aging coaster was the subject of much controversy, but finally in 1990, a fully restored Giant Dipper was reopened to the public. Since then, the Belmont Park and its marquee attraction have been a huge and important part of this Mission Beach community.

Other attractions within Mission Beach include Mission Bay Park, Bayside Walk and Ocean Front Walk. Other great local attractions include San Diego’s Gaslamp District, Sea World & the San Diego Zoo.
